Dr. Mohd Nor Akmal Khalid

A research program built on one question.

My academic journey has been shaped by a single guiding question — how can we design intelligent systems that adapt, optimize and create, not just compute? It runs through everything from generative AI and evolutionary computing to expert systems and games informatics.

I am a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FTSM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where I teach and conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computational intelligence and interactive systems.

At UKM I am committed to nurturing the next generation of AI researchers across Malaysia and the region — supervising postgraduate students working on metaheuristic optimization, simulation modelling and applied generative AI.

/ core competencies

What I work with.

Computational Intelligence

Evolutionary and immune algorithms, particle-swarm optimization and multi-objective metaheuristics.

Games Informatics & Engagement

Game refinement theory, the “motion in mind” model, procedural content and serious games.

Computational Optimization

Combinatorial optimization, scheduling, assembly-line balancing and AutoML.

Generative & Agentic AI

Generative models, LLM applications, agentic content generation and knowledge-based expert systems.

Simulation & Modelling

Agent-based simulation, crowd dynamics and Monte-Carlo methods.

Technical Stack

Python, PyTorch, MATLAB, Unity, R and LaTeX.

Let's build something intelligent.

Postgraduate supervision, research collaboration and conference invitations are always welcome.
